Challenge and Concept
DC grids offer enormous potential for greater energy efficiency in industrial applications. At Hannover Messe 2025, Phoenix Contact demonstrated how an intelligent DC grid works and how it can contribute to profitability and sustainability – in a concrete, accessible and interactive way.
The goal was to create an immersive solution that not only highlights the advantages of a direct current supply but also explains complex technical processes in a way that is intuitive and engaging.
Our solution: an interactive exhibit that simulates a DC grid within a factory setting.
Development
At the heart of the exhibit is a 3D multimedia cube that acts as a real eye-catcher. It visualizes the flow of energy within the factory – generation, consumption, recovery and storage – all controlled in real time via a touchscreen.
The exhibit stages a miniature world with a production building, battery storage and EV charging stations to clearly demonstrate the advantages of direct current over traditional alternating current.
Dynamic animations illustrate how grid stability and energy efficiency can be optimized by connecting various components to the DC bus. The effects on energy consumption, energy recovery and the overall balance become instantly visible.
The interface responds to user interaction and provides context-based information depending on the user’s curiosity, prior knowledge and level of engagement.
Implementation
The entire project was shaped by a close and collaborative partnership – from initial concept and storytelling through to design, technology, content and on-site implementation.
The visual clarity and intuitive operation made the interactive exhibit a real crowd magnet.
The exhibit is designed for global use at trade shows, in showrooms or at customer events, serving as a sustainable communication tool that brings DC technology to life – and underlines Phoenix Contact’s role as a technology leader.
